Pre Fader Options
Please consider a pre/post DSP option for the pre send (i.e. pre/post compression, gate, eq).
It is much easier to get greater gain before feedback in monitors when the aux send taps the signal before the compression and gate. This is a very practical real world application.

I emailed Mackie, this was the reply:
Hey Greg,
Thanks for the feedback. This is definitely a highly requested feature and is at the top of our list. It is most definitely not a hardware limitation and we can add this flexibility in an upcoming release.
Thanks,

Why is this not the number one request? This is not a feature, it is a FLAW!

I to agree on AUX's being dry aswell. Did anyone get any answers regarding this request?
especially this question, "Please be honest to your customers...... Is this a firmware fixable issue or is this a flaw in the hardware that CANNOT be fixed? "
MACKIE, I will not buy this product unless it's answered. if it's capable i'd purchase and wait till the update came out but if i can't ill keep researching other options.

Yep, I returned the DL1608. I wanted to love it but seriously? POST EQ / COMP Aux Sends????!!!
I will reallocate my Fed Reserve Notes for the Behringer / MIDAS Xi16 due to be released next quarter. Check it out, they got it right http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/iX16.aspx -

Dear Mackie,

We have a right to know. I still have a couple weeks return window on this.
Really!!!!!???? Who designed these post EQ sends and thought, "sure, our customers will be ok with this...."
I was mixing a band last night and the singer kept complaining that her monitor mix was getting lower and lower..... Considering the AUX's are POST compressors, that was the problem. God, was I embarrassed. PLEASE FIX OR COME CLEAN ON THIS NOW!!!!!! -

yes a must those auxes need to be pre DSP to be used as monitor sends

PLEASE...PLEASE...PLEASE..PLEASE...PLEASE add this feature. Pre Fader / Pre EQ / Pre Everything just like Wle said. I really like this product. It is tough enough to do FOH and Monitor world at the same time while trying to please a pickey singer without the proper tools.
Thank you for listening

This is a must. I don't need vintage compressors I need a mixer with logical function...I hope this can be resolved soon or a return is in my near future.

Yes , I agree..
AUX sends should be a choice, pre or post and NOT GLOBAL.
You can't tell me that it is not possible.
Our company builds GUI's for symetrix, that the IPAD controls remotely. FROM SCRATCH. we can do it, why can't you ?
Yamaha LS9 / M7cl -- works flawlessly, GUI on PC..
Presonus SL 16.4.2 works great, has the SAME FLAW as this.
AUX are PRE or POST, but GLOBAL... Sheesh...WHY ?
Mackie, you guys build MIXERS for god sake. What is the problem here ? DSP load ?
I would pay 100 dollars more for the added DSP.. With it you could do independant EQ / COMP / Effects per channel to AUX sends also.. Independant mix per AUX send..
Like a true FOH, split to Monitor board setup.
Making this a truly sophisticated, piece of hardware / software / wireless control..
Even for IEM (in ear monitors) setups this is TRULY NEEDED..
Let me ask you this.. The members at MACKIE that are band members, what do they say ? You know the answer already..
I like it now, won't own it, 'till it's fixed, and have owned and still own Mackie products.. GET IT RIGHT... I will buy in... But NOT untill this time..
I can see this is a platform for making Mackie some money, I know they are going to sell PLUGINS.. I can smell it.. Which is not a bad thing.
But make it right from the thought perspective, of the engineers that will talk their customers into buying it.. This is where the sales happen.
Come on guys,, we BELIEVE in you, just make the perfect device that you yourselves, would be proud to compete with the largest companies out there in a ENGINEERING CONTEST.. Or GO HOME. -

Can this problem be fixed with just a software update? Or would this require a hardware revision? I am waiting for this to be resolved before I purchase the DL1608. If I take this major issue out of the equation, this is an amazing product! I believe this issue should be priority number one for the DL1608.

This is needed. Can't do FOH and Monitors at the same time on this board with the DSP set at Post. Once you change the EQ in the channel for FOH, it also changes it on the monitors. Really sucks. I hope they make the change on Master Fader 1.4. For now, I disable the EQ, Compressor, Gate and only use reverb and delay. At least the EFX is not post and on the aux sends. No use having an EQ if you can't use it.
What kind of sound engineer would design a mixer with DSP set as POST. They should know that Aux sends should always be Pre Fader / Pre EQ / Pre Everything except for the input gain.

More important is to have the channel strip EQ section pre DSP for the Aux sends. I had two of these boards and returned one. The one I have is being used for smaller events and i don't use any of the DSP (EQ, Compressor, Limiter) because any changes at FOH will change the Aux sends. Not a good thing if monitors are rung out for max gain before feedback and some traveling FOH engineer decides to kick up 400Hz, 500Hz and 1K on multiple mics in the mains and monitors begin to feedback. Traveling sound engineer will wonder what's going on with the monitors. Not to mention loosing compression drivers.
As someone mentioned below, this is not ready for pro sound work. Maybe good for a small coffee shop band.
Can you program a button to allow Pre/Post DSP for all Aux sends.
Can you aslo update the 31 band eq, frequency 150Hz to industry standard 160Hz
The last s/w, firmware update had some interesting modifications that are not really needed for FOH systems.

Just wondering, will this be addressed soon? The eq change for the FOH changin my in-ear mix is super annoying and like others have said....This should be the top of the fixes/modifications :)
Thanks for having this forum for suggestions, great product!!!!

I agree with others here! This should be at the top of the to-do-list, I'm currently looking into buying a couple of these for small acoustic gigs and events, but after doing my research and finding this out that the FX, comps and gates are fixed, I will be changing my mind, like others if you ask me this is more important then updating the PEQ, this is basically a buy or not buy feature and one that needs to be addressed ASAP! I'm just glad I didn't purchase one and then realise this!

I'm not sure how much work it would take, but I think the ideal situation should be the ability to assign DSP elements as you choose around an Aux send. Few people here agree on the "only good way" to run Auxes, so why not let them set it up the way they like? There aren't a large number of DSP "blocks"...it's just HPF, EQ, Gate, Compressor and Aux Send.
Personally, I prefer everything pre-Aux except the Comp. Many guys here are used to larger setups with separate monitor boards (and separate monitor EQ). I bought the DL because it's small, light and easy for normal club gigs. I want the channel EQ's to also adjust the monitors. The Comp would be way more useful after the Aux Send though...

I am going to disagree with most of the comments about this being a useless mixer for pro audio. If the audience is so far from the stage and can not hear the monitor bleed like huge concerts with mondo systems, then yes, make the Aux sends pre EQ, comp and gate.. Quite frankly, it would be a shame if this was changed,,,, because some vocalists should not be allowed to sing into a monitor mix without some compression, I like it the way it is now, but I would much rather have the option to change it. I do realize we are not talking about pin configuration or small pushbuttons, these changes need to be created in the software, but because the software is for an iPad, there is no place for preferences like a computer DAW system where we can change these things to our own liking, I could be wrong and I hope I am, but the option to have it however we want would be best if it is going to be changed. folks, we need to remember this is just a 16 channel soundboard not a desk or a console as we know it. The biggest beauty in this product is that it is not menu driven like so many "unmusical to mix on" consoles out there.

Guys this is a priority...the item with most votes is the pre eq request but it really should be pre eq comp gate. If this system was designed to be a stand alone live console this needs to be fixed. It does not make sense that your foh mods affect monitors....thats just plain wrong and any decent sound engineer would tell you that. There are two seperate audio feeds and we need seperate audio dsp control period. You would need to disable all eq comp and gates...in this case the dl all really is an expensive dj mixer

Take the signal right after each channel gain, before EQ, and all other DSP. I need at least 4 clean aux outs to be able to shape the monitor sound and control feedback with the 31 EQ.

I just purchased this unit not knowing the auxes are not isolated from the compressor/gate ect. I will be sending the unit back. Totally useless for live applications.
